Beaches and Villages: early summer Elba

In June, the beaches of Elba Island offer incredibly clear waters and the longest days of the year for enjoying the sun until late. But the real magic of this month begins in the late afternoon: when the air cools down, we suggest you leave the coast to explore the historic hillside villages, such as Poggio, Marciana, Capoliveri, Rio, San Piero or Sant’Ilario. You’ll find breezy squares, artisan stores and the most authentic atmosphere on the island.

The historic hillside villages

Perched on the heights and guardians of a thousand-year history, the villages of Elba welcome you among labyrinths of stone alleys, artisan workshops and breezy little squares. This is where the island’s most intimate and authentic heart beats, where the pace slows down and every terrace offers breathtaking views suspended between sky and sea.

Poggio

An enchanting medieval village perched among the chestnut woods of Monte Capanne. Famous for its concentric granite streets and historic Napoleon’s Fountain, it is a true oasis of quiet and coolness.

Marciana

Located over 300 meters above sea level, it is one of the oldest towns on the island. It guards the majestic Pisan Fortress and boasts an intact historic center, an ideal starting point for the Monte Capanne cable car.

Capoliveri

Nestled on a hill ridge, it is a vibrant village rich in mining history. Famous for quaint narrow alleys, lively squares and panoramic terraces that provide spectacular sunsets over the sea.

Rio nell'Elba

The ancient mining heart of Elba, it stands perched on the eastern hills. It retains an intact charm linked to iron traditions, with charming public wash houses fed by the historic Canali spring.

San Piero

It rises on a scenic granite plateau at the foot of Mount Capanne. World-famous for its extraordinary geological and mineral wealth, it is home to the splendid Romanesque fortress-church of San Nicolò.

Sant'Ilario

A perfectly preserved medieval jewel with a characteristic elliptical plan. Walking through its granite-paved streets and flower-filled squares provides a magical journey back in time, wrapped in absolute peace.
