The English Fort in Portoferraio is transformed for one evening into a center of scientific popularization of excellence. Starting at 9:30 p.m., the historic Medici fortress will host a fascinating conference entitled "Underground Elba," an unmissable event to discover the faunal and environmental secrets hidden in the deep heart of the island.
The meeting, curated by two distinguished experts in the field-Professor Marco Isaia of the University of Turin and Leonardo Forbicioni of the World Biodiversity Association-will give the audience an exclusive overview of the outcomes of the eponymous "Elba Sotterranea" research project.
Scholars will guide attendees to discover the extraordinary fauna and ecosystems that populate Elba's hypogean world: a fascinating network composed of natural caves, man-made cavities and superficial underground environments. These are habitats that are as yet little explored but hold inestimable value for understanding local biodiversity, revealing rare species and surprising biological adaptations unique to the area.
Meeting: 9:30 pm directly at the English Fort, Portoferraio.
Duration of the event: Approximately 2 hours.
Difficulty level: Easy (this is a seated frontal lecture, accessible to all).
Cost: Admission is completely free.
