On Thursday, June 11 at 3:30 p.m., the Marciana Archaeological Museum opens its doors for an intriguing journey back in time. On the occasion of the last event of the popular regional cycle "Amico Museo - Spring Air in Tuscany's Museums," a special thematic guided tour will be held entitled: "The Wreck of the French Ship of the 18th Century and the Jacobin uprisings of Elban counterrevolutionaries."

A unique opportunity to turn the spotlight on one of the most troubled, adventurous and least known pages of the modern history of Elba Island.

Four rooms, one big Elban story

The event represents the final chapter of the popular "Four dates, four stories, four museum rooms" format . Through the precious artifacts housed within the Marcian collections, the guide will lead participants on a two-track historical exploration:

  • Underwater archaeology: Fascinating analysis of the remains and cargo of an eighteenth-century French ship that was shipwrecked in island waters, chronicling the trade, routes and shipboard life of the time.

  • Geopolitics and Revolt: An account of the Jacobin uprisings and the fierce resistance of Elba's counterrevolutionaries, who vigorously opposed the invading French troops in the late 18th century, defending the territory's identity and autonomy.
