From June 26-28, 2026, the Island of Elba will once again transform itself into the nerve center of contemporary debate on marine conservation by hosting the eighth edition of SEIF - Sea Essence International Festival. The international festival, created to give voice to, safeguard and enhance the essence of the sea, is promoted and and and organized by the Elba Water Foundation.
The central theme of this 2026 edition is "Mediterranean Itineraries": a thread that invites us to read the sea not as a barrier, but as a common good, a fragile ecosystem to be protected and a millennial crossroads of communities, routes and cultures.
The rich program of SEIF 2026 will be structured through four thematic tracks designed to engage citizens, tourists, institutions and scientists:
Physical Itineraries: Focused on sailing routes and historic overland paths. Prominent here is the enhancement of the Via dell'Essenza, the famous Elban path that officially enters the network of Italy's Paths and will be the focus of dedicated activities.
Sustainability Routes: Tables and meetings dedicated to regenerative tourism, an economic and travel model capable of enhancing the beauty of the area while actively protecting marine ecosystems.
Cultural Itineraries: In-depth moments to rediscover the Mare Nostrum as a historical meeting place and contamination of peoples.
Educational Itineraries: Dedicated to the new generations through Ocean Literacy workshops and the consolidation of the European Blue Schools network, connecting Elba's schools with important national entities.
SEIF confirms itself as a widespread festival capable of uniting the island: in fact, the three days of events will enliven the villages and marinas of Marciana , Portoferraio and Marciana Marina.
Friday, June 26: The festival kicks off from the morning with educational workshops for children and special diving and scuba activities, followed in the afternoon by the official opening of the eighth edition.
Sunday, June 28 (Grand Closing): The culminating event of the festival will be an evening of extraordinary artistic awesomeness. TheSea Orchestra 's "Little Orchestra of the Peoples" will take the stage for an exciting concert performed with the instruments of the sea (unique musical instruments made from the wood of migrants' boats). The evening will be embellished by a monologue freely adapted from the work "Memory of Wood" by Paolo Rumiz, directed by Ciro Menale.
💬 "Our goal is to tell the story of the Mediterranean as a great system of itineraries that find a meeting point in the sea. The sea is a common good to be known, protected and enhanced through the participation of territories, institutions, schools, businesses and citizens."
- Fabio Murzi, president of the Elba Water Foundation.
