The museum is located inside the majestic Fortezza della Linguella, in the spaces that once housed the salt warehouses. The trail recounts the history of Elba from the 8th century B.C. to the Roman era, through land and underwater findings. It recounts the importance of the island in antiquity for phero and maritime trade. Finds from the 'fortresses of the high ground', the necropolis of Profico di Capoliveri, the Roman Villa delle Grotte and the Linguella are also exhibited here.
